Polar Bear Alley

Polar Bear Alley is actually a strip of beach about ten kilometres out of Churchill, sandwiched between Ladoon’s kennel and the old Churchill garbage dump.  It is still a fairly common place to find polar bears but back in the hay day of the Churchill dump, it was a pretty busy place.  Bears would hide out their from the ‘traffic’ and generally enjoy the sun, wind and sea.  One of my favourite places in Churchill, so that’s why I chose the name.

The polar bear blog started up in 2006, just kind of a journal about life in Churchill (outside of Churchill actually…), polar bears, the north and, well, the politics surrounding all of this craziness.  Its been seven years of blogging with some ups and downs, some new friends, some tours, a troll or two, chinese hackers and lots and lots of bears.  No awards yet… strange.

Anyway, Polar Bear Alley includes the Polar Bear Blog, a Churchill Travel Guide, some Churchill history and some new polar bear destinations.  Have fun, that’s what its meant for.

  1. Sent comment to Wayde – pls let me know outcome and how a more systemic solution can be identified to eradicate this methodology…

  2. Hi there! You have a lovely site but as I look through it, it’s very difficult for me to figure out who writes your blog and what sort of expertise, background and credentials he/she has. When I’m being encouraged to take action on an issue, I really like to know whether I’m reading the opinions of a passionate layman, a scientist, a marketer, a business owner, a politician or someone else. All of these perspectives are equally valid, of course. I just like to consider the source so I can develop informed opinions of my own. Can you shed some light? Thanks!

    1. I have been a polar bear guide in the Churchill area since 1999, living full-time in Churchill for seven of those years. I have a small guiding business, used to write the local newspaper and have published a book called Polar Bears of Churchill.

  3. Would love to know if you do photography tours for the polar bears. I have been to Kaktovik to see the Bears and would love to go to Churchill and have seen the show polar bear town. I am going to Churchill this August but would love to go whe it snows. Could you please let me know. Thank yo
